The word yoga means union derived from the Sanskrit word “yug” meaning to join. This refers to the “union” of the individual human spirit with the spirit of the universe.
Yoga has a profound effect on the body, mind, and spirit. The body becomes toned and flexible under the guidance of trained yoga instructors, who guide the student through a series of stretches, balancing poses, and breathing exercises that are designed to tone muscle groups, stabilize the body, and exercise the lungs. The mind enjoys the same strengthening through the exercise of meditation, which helps one to cope in our stressful world becoming more focused and centered. The spirit sores as the body and mind experiences health, flexibility, and resilience.
