The principle yoga training at Temple Arts is Sivananda style hatha yoga, focusing on unification of the body, mind, and spirit through relaxation, breathing techniques and asana postures.
This style of yoga is a creation of Swami Sivananda, a physician in India who renounced the world for a spiritual path devoting his life to the service of humanity and the study of Vedanta His prescription for a spiritual life is summed up in the simple commands: “Serve, Love, Give, Purify, Meditate, Realize.” In 1957 Sivananda’s teachings were brought to the west by Swami Vishnu Devananda, a disciple of Swami Sivanandas. Vishnu Devananda trained over 12,000 yoga instructors from his Yoga Vedanta Center in Montreal and there are now numerous Sivananda centers around the world.
